Uruguay won their quarter-final match via penalties against Ghana. Ghana opened the scoring at the end of the first half, Uruguay then equalized nine minutes after the start of the second half, before the end of extra time, Ghana was awarded a penalty kick but was missed by Asamoah Gyan. With two saves from Fernando Muslera, Sebastian Abreu sealed the win for Uruguay with his penalty kick.
The Netherlands came from a goal down ten minutes after kick-off, to win their quarter-final match against the top-ranked team in the world, Brazil. After an own goal by Felipe Melo which equalized the match, a Wesley Sneijder goal which gave the Dutch the lead on the 68th minute, and a red card for Melo, saw Brazil lost its composure and for the rest of the game was scrambling for an equalizer.
The Uruguay and the Netherlands match may seem to be one of the unexpected match-ups at this stage of the competition. Its hard to predict who would emerge victorious and would have a chance for the trophy, and for the losing team, a match for the third place finish. Surely, it will be one exciting match to watch.
Die Nationalmannschaft versus La Roja ![]()
Germany did not let Argentina avenge their quarter-final lost in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Germany scored four goals in the match, the first one in the three-minute mark, currently the fastest goal in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, then midway in the second half, two goals were scored in a span of six minutes, and the last goal came with a minute remaining, just like putting an icing on the cake for Germany.
As opposed to the match won by Germany, Spain had to win their match the hard way, only one goal separated the two teams after the final whistle was blown. Spain had to rely on David Villa for the lone goal of the match which came late in the second half. Both sides had their chances on the penalty spot, both of which were saved by their respective goalkeepers.
Germany has never lost a World Cup match against Spain, will the statistics favor Germany or will Spain continue to write a new history. The all-European semi-final will be one for the books, with the in-form Germany squad wanting to avenge their EURO 2008 Finals lost to Spain, we will surely have a match to watch for.
