LeBron James scored 32 points — 19 points in the second half — and the Cavaliers forced a decisive and fitting finale to this home-sweet-home playoff series with a 74-69 victory over the Celtics, who have gone from regular-season road kings to postseason road kill. James added 12 rebounds, Delonte West had 10 points and Smith came off the bench to add 9 points, none bigger than his 2 free throws that closed out the Celtics.
Kevin Garnett scored 25 points, Pierce 16 points and Ray Allen just 9 points on 3-of-8 shooting. The Celtics got just 2 points from guard Rajon Rondo, who scored 20 points in their Game 5 win. The Celtic’s point total was the second lowest in franchise playoff history and the fewest points ever given up by Cleveland in the postseason.
Los Angeles Lakers 108 – Utah Jazz 105
Kobe Bryant scored 34 points, 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Los Angeles held off a furious rally by the Utah Jazz for a 108-105 victory in Game 6, putting the Lakers in the Western Conference finals for the first time in four years. Pau Gasol finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds and teamed up with Lamar Odom, who scored 13 points, to shut down the Jazz in the lane for most of the first three quarters. Gasol had 4 blocks and Odom had another as the Lakers flustered the Jazz early and built a lead that was too big for the Jazz to overcome.
Deron Williams led the Jazz with 21 points and 14 assists. Carlos Boozer had 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Mehmet Okur had 16 points and 10 boards, hitting two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter during the Jazz’s comeback. Reserve Paul Millsap added 15 points for the Jazz and led them on a 14-5 run early in the fourth quarter that set up the thrilling finish.
