Google’s New Toy – Google Chrome *Update*

Google ChromeGoogle ’s own web browser.  As was posted on Google Blog , the search engine giant has been developing a new web browser and will be on beta launch today in more than 100 countries.  On its Wikipedia page, the web browser is said to have been develop by using the WebKit rendering engine, while on the blog post it was also mentioned that they also used components from Mozilla’s Firefox.

Some key features of Google Chrome mentioned on the Google Blog are:

  • A browser window design that is streamlined and simple.
  • Google Chrome is clean and fast.
  • The foundation of a browser built to runs today’s complex web applications much better.
  • Improved speed and responsiveness across the board.
  • A more powerful JavaScript engine, V8.

Features listed on Wikipedia :

  • An address bar with auto-completion features called "omnibox."
  • The V8 JavaScript Virtual Machine .
  • A privacy mode.
  • Web applications can be launched in their own browser window without an address bar and toolbar .
  • Chrome includes an automatically updated phishing and malware blacklist using the Google Safe Browsing API.
  • Uses the WebKit Rendering Engine .
  • Puts individual tabs and plug-ins into separate processes.
  • Integration of Gears .

I use most of Google’s application on a Firefox 3 web browser, I might try Google Chrome and experiment on it to check if it is what is said to be.

Will the new browser on the block be able to live up to the hype Google is giving it?  Let’s just wait and see.

Hi! I’ve also been toying around with chrome, about the “recently closed tabs”, chrome has this feature, if you would open a new tab, it will display your recently closed tabs on the right side of the newly open tab. ;)
